This book plays with surrealist ideas that challenge the expectations of traditional picture books. It starts gently with a man driving to his home, but walking into it, things are not what might be expected as it’s revealed as a gallery. One hanging painting of a landscape features a tiger that becomes alive to chase the man through the pages. Further images challenge reader expectations as reality and fiction play together. A woman appearing from behind a curtain and the man’s fearful staring eyes cause disquiet and wonder in this picture book for adults. The simple 2-dimensional images in beautiful colors add a special charm to the dream-like style of storytelling.
